grass care (Scott's program) in South Jersey question?
I have a few bare spots and want to overseed before I put down the halts crabgrass fertilizer.
1. Can I seed right now prior to putting down the scott's crabgrass fertilizer. (should I really try to squeeze in a seeding before the crabgrass stuff?).
2.And, when should I really put the crabgrass stuff down (e.g., March, April?) to be most effective?
Halts is a pre-emergent so don't use it before seeding, then your grass seed won't come up. If you were not going to seed, then right now would be a great time to put down the Halts. Since you are going to seed, then put the seed down after the last frost in your area. Then wait one full month after the seed has come up to put down the Halts. If you really need to put the Halts down now then you would have to wait 4 to 5 months before you could seed your lawn. So if you use the Halts right now then you could seed next fall.
