I am thinking of putting down a lot of mulch, should I bother putting some landscaping fabric down on the bare earth first?  Is it something that is required, or can I get away without putting it down?  What are the pros and cons of contemplating such a thing?

Answer:  The only reason you would put down landscaping fabric is to keep weeds from coming up through your mulch.  As far as specific pros and cons, well, first of all landscaping fabric costs money, however, having to get rid of weeds costs money also.  It will take you a little more time to put the fabric down, but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.
