Drive® XLR8 Herbicide
Drive XLR8 Herbicide

Driven To Perform Even Better.Drive® XLR8 herbicide is the latest technology in providing unsurpassed crabgrass control. A proprietary, water-based formulation, Drive XLR8 improves the control of crabgrass, foxtails, barnyardgrass, & several broadleafs (clover, dandelion, speedwell, blackmedic) and numerous other troublesome weeds that you have relied on Drive 75 DF to control.

When compared to Drive 75 DF, the new formulation in Drive XLR8:

  • Provides faster, more effective control on grassy weeds & labeled broadleaf weeds.
  • Delivers quicker uptake by the plant.
  • Is rainfast quicker (in 30 minutes).
  • Goes into solution more efficiently than DF.

Broadleaf and Grassy Weeds Controlled by Drive XLR8. Drive XLR8 effectively controls:

Drive XLR8 even controls crabgrass in the mature stages — four tillers or more. And Drive XLR8 provides outstanding residual control for up to 30 to 45 days with a single application. Historically for the Midwest geography, 2-4 tiller stage crabgrass falls during the first 3 weeks of July. Late July through August is when Drive absolutely performs the best and outperforms competitive products.

It is very important to add Methylated Seed Oil or similar spray adjuvant with the Drive to have the best possible results. Click here for best deal on a MSO surfactant, Microyl

For golf course bentgrass/poa fairways & tees, it is recommended to use a Drive XLR8 rate of 1 oz/m and reapply the same rate in 14-21 days if necessary. For golf course roughs and all other high cut turf, apply Drive XLR8 at the 1.5 oz/m full labeled rate.

Where To Use Drive XLR8: Drive XLR8 is labeled for use in: residential, commercial and industrial turfgrasses, golf courses, sod farms, sports and recreation fields.

Keys to SuccessSpray coverage should be uniform and complete. It is recommended to not mow two days before or after application if possible. Irrigation may improve weed control, if soil moisture is not sufficient. Drive XLR8 may be tank-mixed with other pre- and postemergent grass herbicides, along with postemergent broadleaf herbicides. We do not recommend adding a PGR to the Drive XLR8 tank-mix.

Drive XLR8 & Hydroseeding applications: Please review the Drive XLR8 Hydroseeding attachment below for how to use Drive XLR8 in Hydroseedign applications.

This is going to sound incredibly self-serving, but the best price on Drive 75 used to be right here.  Unfortunately, BASF, the manufacturer of Drive 75 has ceased making the product because they have developed a new formulation that they say works better, Drive XLR8.

Drive 75 DF was one of the best values for selective, post-emergent killing of crabgrass.

What this means is if you didn't get around to using a pre-emergent for crabgrass in the spring, and now you have crabgrass, other grass type weeds and even broadleaf weeds, you are going to need to hit your lawn with something like Drive 75 and Drive XLR8, are quinclorac based, selective weed killers. Hit your entire lawn with this stuff, following instructions, and only the bad stuff is going to die. It's just a plain miracle how it works.

I mean this stuff is going to kill crabgrass, dandelions, foxtail, blackmedic, barnyardgrass, and other stuff like clover, etc. Drive 75 DF is a dry compound that is sold in one pound containers, and one pound of this stuff will treat an acre of lawn. Please know that while some people do apply it without a surfactant, you really should use a surfactant or you risk having an ineffective treatment. A surfactant is a methylated seed oil that is designed to help the Drive stay stuck to the weeds, it's that simple. Stick the weed killer better to the weed, weed's gonna die better.

Drive 75 DF is COMMERCIAL GRADE - normally available only to turf companies or golf courses. Now that BASF has come out with an even more expensive product, they have stopped making Drive 75. It's only when companies like us get our hands on a load of it can be make it available to the general public.

QuinStar HerbicideAS OF 8/17/10 WE HAVE SOLD OUT OF DRIVE 75 DF - Since it is no longer manufactured, chances are we will not be able to get any more.

The good news is that there is a new generic for Drive 75 DF called QuinStar - QuinStar has the identical active ingredient formulation and is every bit as effective.  The rest of the good news is that this product should be available for some time.

Landscape Fabric

Landscape Fabric

I am thinking of putting down a lot of mulch, should I bother putting some landscaping fabric down on the bare earth first?  Is it something that is required, or can I get away without putting it down?  What are the pros and cons of contemplating such a thing?

Answer:  The only reason you would put down landscaping fabric is to keep weeds from coming up through your mulch.  As far as specific pros and cons, well, first of all landscaping fabric costs money, however, having to get rid of weeds costs money also.  It will take you a little more time to put the fabric down, but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.

We've looked around and put some of the best weed fabrics in our webstore.  If you need landscape fabric you can't go wrong with these products.
